SIU Fire Specialist/Fraud Investigator - #0568

SUMMARY: Responsible for handling claims involving a major fire. Trains local field staff and assists District Claims Manager in training through individual and group meetings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Determines the point of origin and cause of fire claims.

Renders opinion as to where and how fires start.

Trains adjusters in fire scene investigation, both on the scene and in class work.

Works with defense attorneys in preparation for trials.

Works with local fire departments and outside experts to investigate fire claims.

Travels throughout the state to investigate fire claims.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university with 5 to 7 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have appropriate training and certification in fire investigation.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to apply complex mathematical concepts. Ability to work with mathematical operations related to daily tasks.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and REGISTRATIONS: Must work toward either a Certified Fire Investigator (CFI) or Certified Insurance Fraud Investigator (CIFI) designation and obtain an Adjuster’s License as governed by the laws of the State of Florida.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Special training in fire fighting, fire investigation, courtroom procedure, and claims handling.
